By-the-throat

My words keep falling over each other
Whenever I think of you
Don’t think my quietness
is a sign of uninterest
My senses are overflowing
and I’m trying to catch my breath here
I’m forever shy and try and keep a distance
because you have reached so far inside me
That whatever you say or do
has me by the throat
Scared of getting hurt, afraid to find out it’s not real, beyond excited if it truly is real.
So I tiptoe around your heart
because you hold mine in your hands
